Here it is! The first annual BMW Cross Border Rally, brought to you by the BMW Moto Club QTO and BMW NorCal. We're coming together as the first BMW International Sister Clubs in the world, and this rally is how we celebrate this friendship. This year our clubs will rendezvous in Loreto BCA and tour our way up scenic and adventurous Baja California, to end at the BMW Dealership in Long Beach California. This is open to members of any BMW motorcycle club.
Starting things off from the US side will be a group of BMW NorCal riders heading from the SF Bay Area to Loreto. We will mostly be on paved roads but there will be some dirt too. Expect stops at San Felipe, a night at Papa Fernandez on the Sea of Cortez, a visit at Coco's Corner, Mulege and camping on the beautiful beaches of the Bahia de Conception and much more. Accommodations will include camping on beaches to staying at hotels.
We will casually tour to Loreto. We are neither racing nor getting crazy off road. That's not for this tour. And this is not a guided tour through Baja. We are a collective of BMW riders, each paying their own way. Yes, we will be following a route, and yes, BMW NorCal will be making some reservations in advance. But everyone is responsible for their own bike, their own mexican insurance, and their own expenses. We will be providing links and tips of what we need.
After a day or three of "cultural immersion" in Loreto we will tour north with the BMW Moto Club QTO, making our way to BMW of Long Beach. We've reserved a whale watching package with beach camping and "noche Mexicana" dinner and breakfast at Ojo de Libere. There will be stops stops along the way at places of historic and cultural interest, and some great riding camaraderie.
The last night in Mexico we expect to stay in the Baja wine region, just south of Tecate. After a night of revelry we push to Long Beach. BMW of Long Beach will host the Rally with a great event, with great food, cold drinks, and vendors offering some great prizes and motorcycle related merchandise. From Long Beach we ride to Death Valley, with one night in Joshua tree, before we link up with the annual BMW NorCal campout in Furnace creek
Riders that can't go to Loreto can meet in the wine region, or at the BMW dealership in Long Beach.
We've sorted out the fees for the Ride.
See the link below for the working itinerary.
1st Annual Sister Club Cross Border Rally Ride - tentative itinerary.pdf
Join us for our 1st Annual BMW Cross Border Rally, at BMW Long Beach. We're getting BMW riders together to celebrate our first Cross-Border Ride with our BMW International Sister Club, BMW Moto Club de Turismo Queretaro. At the Long Beach dealership you can expect food, beer, raffle prizes and music by the E&O Medicine Show!
Show up on your BMW and get in for free!
Note - this year we are a week earlier than usual.
It's time! Death Valley beckons and we must ride! Are you up for the adventure? There is no organized club ride down from the Bay Area, but get together with friends and ride your own adventure...
Meet up with other BMW NorCal club members at the BMW Dealership in Long Beach on March 14th for the Cross Border Rally with our Sister Club from Queretaro Mexico, and riders from BMW SoCal and other clubs. From there we will ride to Furnace Creek, camping for one night in Joshua Tree then riding through the Mojave National Preserve to Death Valley.
Proposed Route from Long Beach:
Songdog Ranch, why not? Come join BMW NorCal for a fun time at one of the club's favorite destinations! Songdog Ranch offers some awesome, old west style camping just south of the Carrizo Plain, a great destination for us moto adventuring types! We are also looking at a BBQ cookout, details to follow.
Songdog ranch is a stretch from the Bay Area so we are starting off with breakfast at Cowboy's Corner Cafe in Watsonville.

About Lance Thomas:
It was 2008 when Lance Thomas first took to riding off-road. What started as a tentative experiment in adventure motorcycling quickly became a passion that has become a cornerstone of Lance's life. He took a job at the BMW off-road academy in California; first as a project coordinator, and eventually as lead coach and tour guide.
In 2011, Lance and his brother Shawn were tasked with managing the "GS Lifestyle" program, where they toured the country offering off-road riding clinics on behalf of BMW. In just 2 years, the Adventure Brothers ran over 100 events catering to nearly 5,000 Adventure riders. In the off time, Lance ran adventure tours throughout the USA, including California, Colorado, and the famed Continental Divide route. Lance has also been featured in product videos produced on behalf of BMW, ranging from Adventure riding gear and equipment, to understanding the cutting-edge technology contained within adventure motorcycles.
Lance believes that proper off-road technique is born from proper training. To that end, he has created a curriculum designed to grant riders a simple, achievable ladder of skills that will take them from novice off-road rider to experienced, confident adventurers. Drills focused on elements such as clutch, brake and balance control are practiced, monitored and perfected under Lances watchful eye. It is a tried and true method that has helped thousands of adventure riders achieve and exceed their goals.
Lance offers gives private and group trainings at BMW dealerships around the country. Join him and experience the true capabilities of you and your motorcycle!
