Riding and camping Northern California and beyond, since 1965!
Come on down and see your Board in action!
This term the Board is meeting at 10 AM on the first Saturday of each month at MotoGuild SF. So whether you've got some club business, want to thank the Board for all their hard work for the Club, or just want to spectate; stop on by and join the Board! And maybe after take advantage of the great MotoGuild facility and wrench a little on your bike...
This month we're in for another treat! We're heading down into the Los Padres National Forest where we will find some great riding, culminating with a great stretch of the Maricopa Highway. It's ambitious and a little stretch so we're starting in Hollister and starting 30 minutes earlier with breakfast and the ride. This one's going to be fun!
Breakfast at Country Rose Cafe in Hollister 7:30 AM, ride starts at 8:30 AM.
Stops along the way: Pinnacles visitor center - general store, Lockwood store, Albertsons center @ Paso Robles for gas, quick lunch/groceries, Taft - last gas.
The campground does not have running water so bring some or you can buy some along the way.
Also offered is an alternate route sheet (weather permitting) with GS and goat roads - see the .gpx file or the rever route sheet below. Longer riding so plan appropriately.
Come join us at our next Member Only Clinic - The BMW NorCal Spring Tune-up at MotoGuild SF!
We've got a bunch of upcoming rides - Baja, Death Valley Camp-out, Superbike Coach Advanced Riders Class, The 49’er, and much, much more! But is your bike ready?
So if your bike needs something (or you want to just come and shoot the breeze) join us on March 2nd, from 12:00pm to 3:30pm. The Club has reserved three lifts and plenty of work space at MotoGuild SF on Treasure Island. Consider this a “shop day” where you can do minor services to your bike (I.e. change oil/filter, brake fluid, brake pads, tires). We will ask some of our experienced members to help out, but MotoGuild has offered to have a mechanic on site who can assist you and get you familiar with the tire change and tire balancing machine. Tools are a part of the rented space but you may want to bring your own special tools and bike manual/specs, just in case.
And since MotoGuild has been a great supporter of the Club with past clinics and hosting the monthly BOD meetings, go to them first to purchase tires, brakes, and whatever else you may need for your bike.
But wait, there's more! This MOC is scheduled right after the March BOD Meeting so feel free to show up early and see your Board hard at work, and, even participate if you'd like! This is a great chance to see what is happening behind the scenes with the club. Plus the election of the Board is coming up and we are always looking for some new faces to represent the club.
Also, we will have volunteer signups for this year's 49’er Rally. The Rally Chair will be on site to answer questions of the various volunteering tasks.
Register for this MOC on the Club Events page (or click here) so we get an accurate headcount. (Mylene might just bring some of her “Killer Muffins” and you don’t want to miss out!)

You know the drill, it's the annual Club Death Valley Campout! Get here any way you want - ride your own own adventure or ride the Cross Border Rally. Just get here for a great club outing.
This month we are in for a real treat! Russ Drake's daughter has offered her property in La Grange to the Club for the April campout. And we are including a BBQ dinner in the price! But space is limited to 100 riders.
BMW NorCal members can take advantage of a 4 week early bird registration, with general registration opening February 5th.
An as if this wasn't great enough, Russ Drake may have a dual sport ride in the area to share with folks. Details to follow.
But wait, there's more! We will be stopping by A&S for an open house!
It's time again for the biggest BMW motorcycle rally this side of the Mississippi!
The 49er Rally is the BMW Motorcycle Club of Northern California's annual Memorial Day Weekend rally, with 47 years of tradition that predates the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America's (MOA) National Rally. (In fact, the first MOA Rally was held at our 49er Rally!) This is the West's premier BMW Rally!
This year's 49er Rally offers four nights of grassy tent camping, optional RV camping with water and electrical hook-ups (limited space available), hot showers, cold drinks, great food, clinics, speakers, vendor displays, prize giveaways, and the camaraderie of lot of fantastic people from all over! Attendees will also have great local riding opportunities including a Poker Run, a self guided Historical Ride, and self guided GS and road rides. 49er attendees can also sign up for an optional GS adventure riding clinic with Lance Thomas followed by a guided ride. (Space for the GS clinics is limited and fill up fast so register now!)
Ride an Airhead? This year look for a beefed up Airhead presence as the Airheads Beemer Club will be moving in to Airhead Central. Bring your airhead or just questions, there's always some sort of airhead clinic or repair going on...
If you are a vendor or speaker (or would like to be) and have questions about the 49er Rally, please click here to email Hugo Bonilla, the 49er Chair.

About Lance Thomas:
It was 2008 when Lance Thomas first took to riding off-road. What started as a tentative experiment in adventure motorcycling quickly became a passion that has become a cornerstone of Lance's life. He took a job at the BMW off-road academy in California; first as a project coordinator, and eventually as lead coach and tour guide.
In 2011, Lance and his brother Shawn were tasked with managing the "GS Lifestyle" program, where they toured the country offering off-road riding clinics on behalf of BMW. In just 2 years, the Adventure Brothers ran over 100 events catering to nearly 5,000 Adventure riders. In the off time, Lance ran adventure tours throughout the USA, including California, Colorado, and the famed Continental Divide route. Lance has also been featured in product videos produced on behalf of BMW, ranging from Adventure riding gear and equipment, to understanding the cutting-edge technology contained within adventure motorcycles.
Lance believes that proper off-road technique is born from proper training. To that end, he has created a curriculum designed to grant riders a simple, achievable ladder of skills that will take them from novice off-road rider to experienced, confident adventurers. Drills focused on elements such as clutch, brake and balance control are practiced, monitored and perfected under Lances watchful eye. It is a tried and true method that has helped thousands of adventure riders achieve and exceed their goals.
Lance offers gives private and group trainings at BMW dealerships around the country. Join him and experience the true capabilities of you and your motorcycle!
* A note on the change of clinic format and cost from previous years. This year the Club's insurance rates jumped so unfortunately we had to change the cost structure. We also have been wanting to add more clinics so this year we struck a deal with Lance, adding 2 more clinics. To accommodate this we have BMW NorCal Club members that are leading the trail ride portions.

It's election time so come join us at Finnon Lake for a great campout and cast your vote for the next Board of Directors. And, maybe even consider stepping up and volunteering for a position. The BOD is what makes the club work and it's run by fellow members volunteering to get things done.
The start location and route are still to be determined... Stay tuned.
This month we are lucky to be heading into an area with some of the best riding in California! And if we find ourselves too warm from all the awesome summer riding, this campground is right on Stoney Creek, the perfect place for a dip. Also, we have thesite for two nights so consider coming up on Friday to take advantage this.
Route sheets to follow.
This month we'll have some good Sierra fun. At 8,000', Badger Flats offers some great camping and the road in will be a treat.
Route sheet to follow.
September is when we say goodbye to high elevation campouts for the season. And our last one for this season is at Gurnsey Creek Group site, near Lassen National Park. Dress warm and expect overnight frost but the great riding there will more than make up for it!
Route sheets to follow.
