Motorcycle Camping

The BMW Club of Northern California has been a riding and camping club for over 50 years.  You don’t have to have the newest GS to get your gear to the camp site. Join us for a weekend trip and you’ll see anything from K bikes, RTs, GSs, and Airheads at the campground.

We motorcycle camp throughout the year all over California, as winters here are mild enough to camp.  During the summer we venture as far as Oregon and Nevada.

Deciding on what to take camping is a personal preference, but some basic items are pretty universal.  Picking backpacking gear is a great starting point.  Weather dictates what additional clothes to bring for comfort.

Everyone has a different take on camp cooking.  Some people lean towards freeze dried meals while others cook, and some stop on the way to camp.   These are some of the basics you'll need:

Sleeping

  • Small tent with rain fly
  • Ground cloth for the tent (optional, but nice)
  • Sleeping pad
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow or clothes stuffed into the sleeping bag’s storage sac

Camp comfort

  • Change of clothes
  • Jacket
  • Knit hat
  • Gloves
  • Packable shoes
  • Small camp chair
  • Headlamp

Camp Cooking and Coffee

  • Stove and fuel
  • Packable charcoal grill
  • Camp Cookware
  • Utensils
  • Seasoning
  • Coffee and coffee tools

Club members often have shared meals at the campouts where everyone brings something to chip in. Ask ahead of time to see if this is happening.
